Last Thursday at Melissa Rotary, we started with something everybody in North Texas could appreciate.
We were thankful for the rain!
John also shared a few stories from his travels, and then we welcomed our speaker, Mike Callahan, Rotary District 5810 District Governor.
Mike brought us a challenge.
And it was only five words:
Do better than your best.
Mike shared the message of our Rotary International President, Yinka Babalola, and this year’s theme:
Create Lasting Impact.
But then he made it personal.
What can we accomplish together?
What do we want to accomplish this year?
And maybe most importantly —
What do we want this Rotary year to be remembered for?
Are we simply going to take care of what was handed to us?
Or are we going to build something even better?
Mike even asked whether we are becoming a MEBA club.
That stands for:
Meet. Eat. And Beat It.
We laughed — but there was a point behind it.
Rotary isn't supposed to be just another meeting on the calendar.
We are here to serve.
We are here to find needs.
And we are here to create lasting impact.
Mike encouraged every Rotary club to find that project or program people immediately associate with their club.
Find it.
Build it.
And keep making it better.
We also heard about District 5810's work with The Senior Source, helping provide air conditioners and fans to seniors in need throughout Dallas, Collin and Grayson counties. This is going to be our Rotary 5810 chosen charity.
And there are some important dates coming up.
October 24 is World Polio Day, and Rotarians will be gathering for what is being promoted as the World's Largest Polio Walk.
Melissa Rotary — maybe it is time for a carpool!
Then on November 14, we have Heart of Melissa, with activities including the quilt raffle and chili cook-off.
So Mike left us with something worth thinking about this week.
What will Melissa Rotary be remembered for this year?
Let's not just have another good year.
Let's Create Lasting Impact.
And let's do better than our best.
