Melissa Rotary invites the community to attend the 2026 State of the City Address presented by Melissa Mayor Jay Northcutt on February 26, from 7:00–8:00 p.m. at the Melissa Crossland Learning Center, 1904 Cooper Street. The public program offers residents a chance to hear updates on city progress, priorities, and future plans, and reflects Rotary’s commitment to an informed and engaged community.

Last week was our noon community lunch meeting

Melissa Rotary welcomed Maddy Ray, representing Naomi’s Village in Kenya. A former Rotary scholarship recipient, Maddy shared her personal connection to Rotary and highlighted the organization’s mission to provide comprehensive care and education for children through its children’s home, K–12 academy, preschool, and community outreach programs. Focused on breaking the cycle of generational poverty through education and leadership development, Naomi’s Village is equipping young people to become compassionate, courageous leaders. Members also learned how they can get involved and support this impactful global mission.

Brett Gustavson and MISD student Carolena Sobocinski also presented information about the Melissa Travel Group, which organizes international service trips designed to make the world better. The group is not affiliated with the school, and students pay their own way. This year, participants will travel to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands to provide new cameras to photographers to increase environmental awareness. The group is still seeking financial assistance to help with supplies and student expenses.

The club also proudly inducted new member Jere Johnson as a transfer Rotarian, continuing Melissa Rotary’s growth and commitment to service above self.
